Majken Ryherd started her mosaic journey twelve years ago when a ceramic tray with her son's handprints on it broke and she couldn't bear to throw the pieces away. Fortuitously, Seattle Mosaic Arts had just opened in the neighborhood and she wandered in starting a joyous trek that has led to being a mosaic artist surrounded by a wonderful mosaic community. Majken began with "baby mirrors" to commemorate the children in her life but quickly jumped into large community projects gathering materials from free tile bins and going out of business sales. She has since collected a studio full of materials, done hundreds of mosaic projects and continues to learn, grow and rejoice in this ancient art form. Majken is no longer sad when objects break, knowing they will find a new life in art as a celebration of transformation and beauty..
